From the comments we have received last week, the reverse is also true. But I will stand by my original observation - I have yet to meet a well catechized Catholic who knew their faith, and understood their faith and yet chose to leave anyway. The ex-Catholics who were fully catechized and left anyway, in my experience, did so for reasons such as birth control, homosexuality, priest/ephebophilia scandal, women priests - and those folks generally try to maintain their Catholicity, particularly the Eucharist, in some form or another. That's my working theory.
Just as long as we continue being lights for Christ, and not feeding the flesh, we'll be fine. :-)
I wonder about this. It must be a real rush to know before you press the enter button that you are about to bring so much attention and discussion about yourself and and your blog. Is that not flesh feeding?
I went to Elena's site a few times, before I decided to never do so again. I felt physically sick - it was so putrid and full of the stink of gossip.
Of interest I recently told Candy via e-mail that I would remove any part of this blog that she felt was personally offensive and gossipy. She declined. I wonder what that means? She also failed to give examples.
The rumour mill was humming away - saying I'm mentally ill, that I'm some coniving scammer, that I'm ... Each time I made a change to my website, even a teeny tiny one, they tried to take the glory. '
Actually we were very honest here about the things we removed here in deference to Candy's feelings and in exchange what she removed for us. I think it was an even exchange. Once again, Candy is only giving a part of the story.
Look! Candy removed the .gif rom her sidbar! We're winning! Look! Candy wrote another 'anti-catholic' article. We must be bother her,' etc. When the truth of the matter is, I've just been blogging whatever I want to blog, regarless of what they are doing over there. :-)
I believe her. There a finite number of topics she wishes to discuss. I think it's fairly predictable that when there's a lull it's time for another anti-Catholic essay. And even those topics are starting to go into reruns.

Not so subtle ad hominem aside, I wonder if Candy's followers ever wonder WHY she won't allow logical debate and discussion. Surely if she is convinced of her rightness there should be nothing that anyone could say that she would find compelling and persuasive. And wouldn't it be a good thing for a "new" Christian to see how overwhelmingly Candy can handle a differing point of view?
Just wondering.

Elena- I am so glad that you addressed those comments. I tried but got to frustrated that I stopped. Coffeebeanfamily and Candy are two of a kind and deserve each other. What a bunch of nonsense. Keep up the good work and keep your chin up YOU are doing the right thing by defending our faith.
IF Candy's intent in publishing all these cockamamie stories about Catholicism is to evangelize us Catholics (and I don't believe for one single second that is her true intent), I think she might be more effective is she pulled her head out of her . . . . 'corrupt' KJV and stuck it in something by Dale Carnegie. "How to Win Friends and Influence People" might be beneficial to her in crafting her message. She doesn't need to worry about the 'win friends' part as I'd not likely ever call her a friend. Seems she's got plenty on the net just like her though so, no big loss for her. She really could use a course on 'influence' though. I don't think there's a thinking person alive who is buying what she's trying to sell.
It'll be amusing to see what she comes up with during the Pope's visit. Wonder what 'pagan symbol' she can come up with to compare to the popemobile.
Everytime I read what she writes, or cuts and pastes, I guess is more accurate, I catch myself thinking "get thee behind me, Satan."
Just more lies, it makes them feel better I guess. Sigh...
When people aren't confident in their own decisions, lives, or beliefs they tend to attack others in an attempt to make themselves feel better. It's so much easier to get a lot of people saying "oh, I agree with you" and "you're so right" in order to validate your own beliefs than it is to actually examine them.
Having been proven wrong on more than one occasion regarding her belief's on Catholicism, one would think she'd examine her sources and beliefs. But, reputable Catholics who know their Church are, apparently, threats rather than sources of correct information.
People with differing beliefs can only be a threat if you let them be. And, you let them be by not being honest with yourself and confident in your own beliefs.
I hate that I can't edit...to clarify, that "you" in my last paragraph was a general "you" - not a specific you. I'd have been more clear if I used "one" instead of "you".
I find this very amusing indeed... seeing as that my husband joined the Catholic church last week!! Hubby has looked at Candy's site and had to just laugh out loud and exclaim (what a waste of time)!!
What I don't understand is why they can't see that the time spent reading candy's blog and writing rebuttals on this blog is because Candy LIES. Because what she says the Catholic church teaches are exaggerations, misrepresentations, and outright lies. That if she were writing on her blog something such as, "I disagree with the Catholic church's teaching on infant baptism because..." and then show that she actually understands Catholic doctrine and then give her reasons for disagreeing...that this blog would not even have to exist. But they don't seem to understand. There seems to be a real lack of comprehension among Candy & her friends...they just do not get it. They don't understand that the Catholic church they describe in their little blogs does not exist, other than in their own imaginations. Do they not take the commandment not to bear false witness seriously? If someone were writing on their blog, "Candy from keepingthehome worships the devil and attends black masses at midnight while her children are sleeping" would she not defend herself and write the truth?
The stuff they write about this blog and the way you lot have behaved is such nonsense I didn't think it worth dignifying their writings by commenting on their sites.
Candy says this site made her feel physically sick but I can say the same about her IP address/satellite phots post.
You are defending yourselves in a positive way by posting about what you believe. They defend themselves by accusing you of neglecting your families.

Isn't your arguement that no "well chatechised catholic" leaves the church just a different version of the "no true scotsman" defense? I would think that priests were among the best taught catholics and yet still some of them left the priesthood and the church. Your arguments are generally strong and well thought out but when you venture into supported assumptions I think you lose some of your credibility.

So how does she know these tghings if she doesn't read this blog?
I know this is an older post, but I just have to comment and agree w/ faithful catholic. My most favorite post ever has been "How not to witness to a Catholic".
The term "Elena crowd" stirs up righteous indignation! I stopped reading for a while. Then I started reading and not commenting. Now I just feel that I must somehow be a part of righting this wrong!!!
I dont' know what I will actually do. I have blogged a bit about my feelings on this and don't know what more I could add...I just feel so strongly that the truth is powerful enough to be spoken in LOVE.
If a Christian feels someone is an enemy, s/he is instructed in the Word to LOVE that person and to pray for those who persecute him/her. That is part of the Christian witness.
I just don't understand! So many times I have wished that I was as good at apologetics as "Elena and crew" so I could be an example of how to defend and discuss the faith.
I am not interested in changing, there are many things about the RCC that I disagree w/, but I am not going to pass on a bias to my kids that we have already come across at least once so far being protestants.
I could just cry right now thinking about it. For a second, let's pretend that Catholics aren't Christians. The witness that the "Elena crowd" is receiving...they would NEVER have their hearts open to becoming a "true" Christian.
I am not trying to convert anyone, for the record.
Sorry to be so long and of course no one may ever even see this, but I just couldnt' not stand up for showing LOVE!!
