Catholics and the Second Commandment « Postscripts From The Catholic Spitfire Grill

I love this blog! Redneck woman is on fire and how timely that she tackles the issue of the commandments and idol worship again. See:Catholics and the Second Commandment « Postscripts From The Catholic Spitfire Grill

And someone cue Candy because APPARENTLY SHE DIDN'T GET IT THE FIRST TIME. Catholics DO NOT WORSHIP STATUES.

Thanks!

I always wonder why people believe such drivel. Yesterday I was reading a friend's blog and saw a comment from an atheist who thought that Catholics worship 3.5 gods - Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and the "half" is Mary except we don't admit she's a goddess.

Who knew!

You can guess that I attempted to set the record straight, in the best VTC tradition.

I find it amazing that people allow themselves to have such extreme misconceptions. This is the information age; it takes seconds to find the truth.

Willful ignorance is never something that can be combated, unfortunately.

I just wanted to thank you for your blog! I'm in RCIA and your blog has helped me defend my decision to join the Catholic Church against my predominately-Southern Baptist family.

Also, I was reading this article on Catholic Online and thought of Candy. I would like to think that if she took the time time to understand our differences she would soften up a bit.

So if someone kneels by the side of their bed and prays are they worshipping idols?

And if a parent kneels before their sick child's bedside and prays?

My stepmother is a Baptist, and so I used to go to church with her while visiting my dad. When they did at "altar call" the people who went up front to be saved would kneel at the railing at the front of church.

I would guess that Candy doesn't mind kneeling in prayer, as long as you don't happen to be in front of a statue at the time.

Elena,

I'm new to your site and to Candy's. Maybe this is something you've already done, but have you considered asking your convert readers to post their testamonies? Maybe Candy et al. would be interested in others' quest for the truth and how it led them into Catholicism.

Just a thought!
