Kelly and I have felt this way too - frequently!
Me too :)
There are two things that are so very annoying about anti-Catholic apologists:
1. They don't know the difference between "misunderstanding" and "understanding but disagreeing". Most would rather cling to their own misunderstandings of Catholicism than understand what the Church really teaches and respectfully disagree.
2. They often seem more obsessed with insulting Catholics than preaching and explaining the Gospel as they understand it. While explaining differences can clarify one's stance, it is rarely done with respect (or truth for that matter) when it comes to comparisons with Catholicism.
This drives me crazy, not only as a Catholic Christian, but as a scholar of religion in general. I don't agree with all of the beliefs of other Christians or non-Christians, but I would certainly do my best to understand their beliefs, represent them accurately in an argument, and not propagate falsehoods about their faith once I had been corrected.
I just can't take it anymore!! ;-)
Stepping off soap box now.
only to show that the doctrine of the “agitators” in St. Paul’s letter to the Galatians is not that of the Catholic Church, and hence that St. Paul’s condemnation of their doctrine is not a condemnation of Catholic doctrine.
Yeah, that's right. And we aren't the "blind Pharisees" of John 9, either. Good heavens. Please disabuse yourselves of such Protestant lore.
Barbara, there's no room for "disagreeing" about the gospel. There's one way to heaven: somebody's got it right. There's not a Catholic dispensation and a Protestant dispensation, as far as I know.

Somebody does have it right, and both Catholics and Protestants might have most of it right but from an objective standpoint there is always the chance that we both have some things wrong. GOD ONLY KNOWS FOR SURE!!
There are some things in religion that can be verified as fact. Others are articles of faith. What it boils down to is that you look at your evidence and pray and I look at my evidence and pray. And if some of your conclusions are different (even if I think they are flat out wrong) than mine I can respectfully disagree with you and pray that God leads you to better understanding. But it's not MY job to judge you and condemn you to Hell.
Most Catholics and Protestants agree on the basics of the Gospel message as stated in the Apostles/Nicene Creed. Now I might think that my Protestant brethren have an incomplete understanding, but attacking them is not the way to educate nor is saying that they believe or practice things that they don't. All I can do is explain and live the fullness of the Gospel as I understand it in my limited human brain and pray for God to do the rest in their hearts.
Unfortunately, there are too many people out there obsessed with showing how Catholics "are not really Christians" than actually spreading or living the Gospel message to those who might really need it.
Barbara, we agree! You said:

I said (in a comment on my blog today under 'Help! Curiosity is killing me!'):
Well, I think I've said before that I believe there are true Christians in every denomination. The Catholic Church has the truth, but with added traditions that get in the way of the truth. So does EVERY denomination. Only God knows how much error each church has compared to how well they teach and live the truth.
Amazing! I think we're learning something!
Beautiful, Barbara C. I completely agree.
When it comes to Truth, we are always learning. God is filled with INFINITE knowledge and wisdom. If there is any person or church that claims to know it all, they are deceiving themselves. Run!!!!!
Now subjectively, I put my money on the Catholic Church having the most things right. And I am constantly amazed by Her wisdom and understanding even when I don't personally like it. ;-)

Very true. That's one thing I love about the Catholic Church. We have many things that we describe as Sacred Mysteries, things that we can't fully understand how or why they are true until we get to heaven. There is also a great humility for the power of God.
