Hi, first let me tell you that I just love your website and visit it all the time... as for this post~You are so RIGHT!! I grew up Catholic and all of my family are still Catholic, because I am now a Christian (NO BEING CATHOLIC IS NOT BEING A CHRISTIAN) I am kind of like the black sheep~fine by me...
My husband had nine kids in his family. Three of them left the Catholic church. Two of them were extremely liberal, and the other extremely conservative. I always thought it interesting that the extremes were the ones to leave. Nonetheless, none of them were "kicked out" of the family. When my sister-in-law died, all of her siblings attended and participated in her funeral service, they grieved and mourned for her, but they also remembered her with much love.
It's terrible thing when religious differences split up a family, but it doesn't have to be that way. I have seen that in my own experience.
I look at the Catholic church as a CULT plain and simple...
In no way, shape of form does the Catholic Church meet any of the requirements for being considered a "cult."
you were right when you say that they worship Mary so much more than Jesus and the pope I won't even go into that...
Well I wish she would because her glaring ignorance on the topic would become even more apparent. Catholics don't worship Mary or the pope. There is a distinct difference between worship and honor.
My brother was killed by a drunk driver 5 years ago and I remember my Dad saying something that just blew me away, he was good and never killed anyone so he will go to heaven, I tried to explain that isn't the way to go to Heaven but talking to a Catholic is like talking to a brick wall when it comes to salvation,
This just left me speechless. How ignorant and cruel is Joann to accost her own grieving father over the senseless death of his son? Does she understand the commandment to honor your mother and father? Does she understand that she should not give her parents extra hardship and grief particularly during times of sadness and grief? And how self-righteous is she person to say that talking to her Catholic relatives, who were suffering so profoundly, was like talking to a wall?
There's a wall there and apparently it's built around common sense.
they think that if you pray enough for the dead that they will be able to get into Heaven...I don't pray for dead people, because it is too late..If you pay a priest enought money and are lucky enough that they mention their name in a mass then they might get to heaven..
The ignorance of the mass stipend is so apparent here that I have my doubts now that this person was ever really Catholic to begin with.
However, she does make a good point in that non-Catholic Christians continue to need our prayers maybe even especially after death, since they have not taught their own offspring to do so.

Elena, you are so right about Catholics not being well-catechized. Granted, I don't know all I should but, really, some of the stuff that "former Catholics" get wrong is so basic that I can't believe they ever really were Catholic. Did these people ever go to Catholic schools or CCD? Did their parents ever teach them anything about their faith? As they grew up, did they ever bother to ask or to research on their own things they weren't sure about? I am dumbfounded.
I was always taught you get as much out of it as you put INTO it. Obviously they put very minimal at the very most. I, too, am amazed by their recollection of what Catholics believe and do. Amazing. Ever notice they all say the same things? All the same things Candy believes about Catholics? - Worship Mary, the Pope, cannot get to heaven through works, need salvation, don't eat crackers.. etc. Funny how after we explain time and time again they just do not get it, nor do they want to.
I have been doing a lot of thinking and praying about Candy's site. One post seems to stick out more than any - the one about her getting off her duff and spreading the Word.
What Candy is doing is NOT how God wants us to spread His word. Picking apart a religion? Is that really setting an example of ones Christianity? I think not. Yet, she continues to insult and pick on Catholics. Why? Why does she have such disdain for Catholics. It actually is disdain for Catholics. I have not seen her zone in on any other religion. Why not? Could it be she is afraid most of Catholics so she bashes them?
And bash them is what she is doing. Her followers really need to sit back and take a good hard look at what/how she is acting towards people and their religion. They could really be next if they do not conform to her reality.
You know that saying, "It's not what you say, it's HOW you say it." I think that applies to her blog.
Again, I cannot help wonder why she taunts and bashings to "preach" to others. Did Jesus do that? No. If he had he certainly would not have had much of a following. Why doesn't she get out and socialize among the people? Homeschool groups? Play groups? Mother groups? Library group?
Why? Because she belongs to none. Her socializing does not go beyond her own home. She has stated she is her husbands best friend and he is hers so they find no need for others. I find this extremely sad. Broaden your horizons! Get out in the world. Live life! Spread God's word through actions and speaking with others.
To me, she hides behind the computer and taunts others trying to get them in fights and sits back and watches. Remind you of anyone?
She has just put up another post and included a link to the online book called "Catholicism Unveiled". Somehow I just knew that she was going to latch onto that book when I clicked on her link that "proved" that Catholics bow to and worship Mary and the Pope. I started to read the online book that she has mentioned, but I just couldn't digest all of the inaccuracies. Guess that I need to go back and read it now. Ugh! I can hardly wait......
I nearly fell over when I saw her post stating:

Is she really putting her own words into and twisting what the bible says??? Wake up followers of Candy!!

Never know a Catholic who did not agree with this.
The above scriptures cannot be refuted. JESUS is the only way to heaven, Mary is not the mediatrix, there is only one mediator, and that is JESUS CHRIST, you are not saved by works, traditions, mass, eucharist/transubstantiation, catechism, rites, etc, and traditions of man can make the Word of God -
I had to chuckle on this one.. I wanted to say and neither will organizing your house, cooking from scratch, homeschooling, and having rigid routines!
I have noticed Candy's posts seem to coincide with the comments on this site no matter how much she claims Elena's blog is not worth her time. LOL

This IS Jesus talking to the ultra-religious group who made up their own rules, and how those rules made the Word of God of no effect. Jesus was picking apart their religion.
"Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God (like Exodus 20:4-5) ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and MANY OTHER SUCH LIKE THINGS YE DO." Mark 7:7-8
"And he said unto them, "Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition" Mark 7:9
"Making the word of God (SCRIPTURES) of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye." -Mark 7:13
Actually, the Word of God is Christ Jesus. Not the Scriptures.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God..... (John 1:1-2, but read all the way to v.5)
So when we think of the "traditions of men," let's remember John 6, and how the Catholics and Orthodox retain the teachings of the Word and have NOT replaced them with the traditions of men, and the lack of discernment of the Body and Blood at the danger of the soul.
Twist the scriptures as you will, but the Word is well-defined for us in the Scriptures. Your parenthetical addition to the scriptures evidences your lack of belief (the part about adding to or subtracting from the scriptures).
