Whore No More!

Take note Candy!

WASHINGTON - John Hagee, an influential Texas televangelist who endorsed John McCain, apologized to Catholics Tuesday for his stinging criticism of the Roman Catholic Church and for having "emphasized the darkest chapters in the history of Catholic and Protestant relations with the Jews."

Hagee's support for McCain has drawn cries of outrage from some Catholic leaders who have called on McCain to reject Hagee's endorsement. The likely Republican nominee has said he does not agree with some of Hagee's past comments, but did not reject his support.

In a letter to William Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Civil and Religious Rights, Hagee wrote: "Out of a desire to advance a greater unity among Catholics and evangelicals in promoting the common good, I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful."

Thanks Tracy for the heads up!

"I'm sorry your feelings were hurt" is not much of an apology.

At least, I don't let my kids get away with it.

Well, at least he's gone on record as saying he doesn't believe the "Whore of Babylon" comparison any longer. Hopefully, he's sincere.

I also hope that people who still think the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon read his apology and realize that they haven't got the facts straight about the Catholic faith.

It may not necessarily be sincere. But, we have to give the benefit of the doubt. Part of life is learning and growing, and people often hold strong opinions that change as they learn more. As far as I'm concerned, that is what life is all about. We don't know at 15 what we know at 40. But, try telling that to a 15 year old.

I think that is something too many forget and call opinion changes "flip flopping" or not knowing what one really thinks. Changing an opinion based on further information is never a bad thing. It means your mind is open and accepting and is not so tightly closed as to automatically repel something different.

I think on the whole, this is a good thing.

Having watched him on TV some, I get the impression that Hagee is more uninformed, than virulently anti-Catholic.
Have to give him credit for teachableness.
