Mary Co-Redemptrix

Mary Co-Redemptrix

I read a great explanation of the Catholic title for Mary in the book Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic by David B. Currie. David Currie is the son of a fundamentalist preacher and both his parent are teachers at the Moody Bible Institute. He holds a degree from Trinity International University. Below is an excerpt:"The third of these misunderstood titles is "Co-Redemptrix". If Mary shares in the work of our redemption, then it seemed only logical to my Evangelical mind that this puts her on equal footing with Christ. But I had not bothered to find out what Catholics themselves mean by this title. I discovered that even I serve as a "co-redeemer" with Christ whenever I help in the spiritual Pilgrimage of another person. Colleen and I are "co-redeemers" of each of our children. We have endeavored to bring them to Christ. If we have succeeded in any small way, it is because Christ has been laboring with us. His is the essential part, but it is still true that we participated in their redemption:"Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him" (James 5:20) "Be merciful to those who doubt.....and save them" (Jude 22; see also 1 Tim 4:16)That makes us "co-redeemers" in the same sense though to a lesser degree than Mary. If for no other reason, Mary is involved in our redemption because she allowed God to use her womb to enter the physical arena. She has cooperated in bringing salvation to all of us."

Thank you for posting this response. Candy's blog attacking Mary actually made me ill. The thought that someone so misinformed has the following she does it sickening. It amazes me that someone who professes to be so knowledgeable is actually so ignorant of the truth. Keep up the good work.
