A Mother's Rule of Life

I was an overwhelmed new mother and I was searching for a Christian home management system, something to help me become more organized & inspired, something that helped me get my house in order so that I could serve God & my family in a much more productive way. Well I found Candy's Blog because of articles in a magazine which she wrote for but is no longer published. You all probably know the story by now, great home management posts not so Catholic friendly.
Well I have found a great book and blog resource. It is called a Mother's Rule of Life by Holly Peirlot. Her book is awesome and Catholic throughout. She even has a blog which can help you with your own Mother's Rule of Life.
I found the book very easy to read and am going to start setting up my own Mother's Rule this week. I encourage all Catholic mothers who are struggling to read this book.
Happy reading!

I loved Holly Pierlot's book! I don't need to have quite as structured a day as she has, but she gives great housekeeping and scheduling tips. I really like the way she divided her day up with prayer and used a nun's "rule of life" as a guide. Her book is very inspiring!

Erika, why don't you do a chapter by chapter review, maybe one chapter a week here on this blog! YOu could announce it and then give folks a chance to get the book, and then just start in. What do you think?

Elena- That sounds like a great idea! Give me a week to get organized and we could start an online book group! I will Announce it this coming Sunday.
Peace be with you all!

My children are grown - Do you think this book could be beneficial for me?

KritterC - if you like the idea of scheduling your day around prayer, you would enjoy the book. It is geared toward moms of young children but I think it's adaptable to other situations. It's been a couple years since I read it though, so Erika may be able to answer your question better.

I am just sitting here thinking, "Where in the world is my book?" I have finally unpacked everything this weekend, so it can't be packed away, but I don't remember seeing it! I will have to double check my bookshelves. I would be willing to buy another copy if yall start a discussion group here.

I just added the book to our side bar if anyone wants to order it now in preparation for the book group!

Kritterc- I do think this book would benefit you. The women who wrote it is a homeschooling mom of five but even though I do not homeschool nor have as many children I am findind it really helpful with balancing my life so that I can get evrything done with the most important thing done first , time with God. I think you will be able to apply the principles to your life as well if you are interested.
Your sister in Christ,
Erika

Holly Pierlot's idea came from religious orders that have a "rule of life." In other words, what is the purpose of their lives in the order, and how would they structure their lives to meet the purpose. She is married and has children, but I don't see why this idea wouldn't benefit older women, single women and even men!
